Side by side

WordPress or a managed venue website: who is doing the maintenance?

WordPress is the right choice when you have a developer, an agency on retainer or a genuinely technical person on staff, because nothing beats it for control and there is a plugin for almost every venue problem. It is the wrong choice when the answer to "who updates it" is the events coordinator. WordPress.org offers the software for people comfortable arranging their own hosting and domain, and its own documentation tells site owners to always update to the latest version and to back up before doing so. Somebody has to be that person, every month, for as long as the site exists.

The short verdict

Unbeatable if you have a developer. A standing job for a venue that does not.

  • Plans$127 a month
  • Build fee$697, after launch
  • Live in7 days
  • Changes5 a month
Point 01

The plugin ecosystem is a real advantage, and a real liability

WordPress.org publishes a directory of tens of thousands of free plugins, and for a venue that means gallery tools, booking calendars, event plugins and form builders all exist off the shelf. That breadth is genuinely useful. It is also how most venue sites end up with fourteen plugins from eleven authors, three of which stopped being updated two years ago, one of which is loading a script on every page it does not belong on, and two of which will conflict the next time the core software updates. The strength and the failure mode are the same feature. Managing it well is a skill, and it is not the skill a venue hires for.

Point 02

Speed drifts downward on a photo-led site

A new WordPress venue site with a good theme can be quick. The problem is what happens over two years of uploading real event photographs straight from a photographer, adding a slider, adding a booking widget, adding analytics and a chat box. Each addition is small and defensible; the accumulation is a gallery page that takes seconds to become useful on a phone at a bridal show. Nobody notices, because nobody is measuring, and the people who leave do not fill in a form to say why. Our answer is structural rather than heroic: pages written as code, almost no client-side script, images served in modern formats at the size the device asked for, and a 90+ PageSpeed score we commit to and keep as content grows.

Point 03

Security and updates are the part nobody budgets for

Because WordPress is self-hosted, the hosting, the backups, the SSL renewal, the core updates, the plugin updates and the recovery when something breaks are all yours or your host's, and the division between the two is rarely as clear as it sounds until something goes wrong the week before a wedding open house. This is not a criticism of the software; it is what self-hosted means. On our plans that entire column is ours: hosting, SSL, a content delivery network, DDoS protection and unmetered bandwidth sit inside the monthly fee, and there is no separate hosting invoice or renewal to remember.

Point 04

Where WordPress genuinely wins for a venue

If your venue needs something specific that lives in the plugin world, say a real-time availability calendar synced to a particular event management system, a members area for preferred vendors, or a ticketing flow for public events, WordPress will get you there and we may not. If you already employ or retain someone technical, you should probably keep WordPress: you are paying for the skill anyway, and the control is worth having. We are the better answer when nobody in the building wants to own a website, which is most venues.

When WordPress is the better choice

  • You employ or retain someone technical who will own the site properly.
  • You need a specific plugin capability, such as a live availability calendar tied to an event management system.
  • You want to own and host the code yourself and are set up to do it.
  • You are running a large content operation and want total control of the publishing stack.

When a managed site from us wins

  • The honest answer to "who updates the site" is nobody, or the person who least wants to.
  • Your site is photograph-heavy and you cannot afford it getting slower every season.
  • You want articles arriving weekly without hiring a writer or an agency.
  • You would rather have one predictable monthly cost than a free platform with uneven bills.
Working together

Can we keep a WordPress blog?

If you have years of posts on WordPress and want to keep publishing there, we can leave that part where it is and build the venue site around it, or migrate the posts across so everything lives in one place and one sitemap. What we will not do is quietly run two systems that both claim to be your website, because that splits your search authority and confuses visitors.

Making the move

Migrating off WordPress without losing rankings

Old addresses that carry search value are mapped to their new pages before launch and redirected permanently, so a page that ranks today keeps its place. We keep the photographs, the copy worth keeping and any posts still earning traffic. Your WordPress site stays live and untouched until you approve the new one, and you keep the export afterwards.

Ask about switching
After the move

From venues that made the switch

  • Floor plan and capacity switcher
A couple can now see our ballroom set for a seated dinner and again set for a ceremony without asking us to describe it over the phone. The floor plan switcher does the showing, so the tour is about the date and the package instead of the shape of the room.
    Danielle CarverOwner, Banquet hallPlano, TX

Moved from a single-page listing site

  • A page per room, with the restrictions stated
Our property has restrictions most venues do not, and the site actually explains them clearly instead of burying them in a document nobody opens before touring. The inquiries that come through now already know what they are agreeing to.
Priya RaghunathanDirector, Historic estate venueSavannah, GA

Rebuilt from an outdated brochure site

  • Weekly researched articles
I did not expect the articles to matter as much as they do. People arrive on a piece about picking a rain plan, then walk straight into the ceremony page. It reads as us knowing the job rather than us advertising.

Questions about wordpress

Is WordPress bad for venue websites?

No. It is excellent, and a well-run WordPress venue site is hard to beat. The question is not the software, it is whether your venue has somebody to run it. Most do not, and that is the gap this service fills.

What does WordPress actually cost to run properly?

We will not put a figure on your setup, because hosting, premium plugins and developer time vary enormously. What we can say is that the costs arrive unevenly, often as an emergency, whereas our fee is the same number every month.

Who handles updates and backups if we stay on WordPress?

You or your host. WordPress documentation advises site owners to always update to the latest version and to back up before updating, so the job exists whoever does it.

Can you work on our existing WordPress site instead of replacing it?

No. These plans cover sites we build and host, which is what lets us commit to the speed score and turn changes around within 2 to 5 working days. Maintaining somebody else's stack is a different service with a different risk profile.

Will we lose our search rankings if we move?

Not if the move is done properly. Every old address that carries ranking is redirected to its new page before the switch, which is standard practice and part of every build.

Do we keep our content if we leave you later?

Yes. Your domain is registered in your name and transferred at no charge, and the photographs, copy and content you supplied are yours. Export requests are handled within 30 days.

Can we still use a plugin we rely on?

Tell us during onboarding what it does. Most venue plugin jobs, galleries, inquiry routing, calendars and package pages, are things we build into the site directly. Where something genuinely needs a third-party tool, we connect to it rather than rebuild it.

How fast will the new site be?

90+ PageSpeed, guaranteed, and kept there as photographs and pages are added rather than measured once on launch day and forgotten.

How long does the migration take?

Live in 7 to 15 days depending on plan, counted from your onboarding call rather than from the day you sign up.
